Yes, if the book is not personalised. Personalised ones carry 50% up front, because from the first week there is work being made to measure for you and for no one else. The other 50% is paid when the order arrives.
Yes, and a fair few do, in the shop or at reception. Bear in mind that a book with a price on it gets judged as a book, so it pays to spend a little more on the cover.
